The LG UltraGear 27G610A-B (around $200) is one of the most attractive gaming monitors I’ve seen in this category. That’s good news considering I’ve been eager to test this monitor since LG first announced it. After extensive testing, I feel confident saying this is one of the better gaming monitors you can buy at this price.
But what makes the LG UltraGear 27G610A-B so great? It has a fairly subdued design for a gaming monitor. And at 27 inches, it’s not exactly huge. What sets it apart is its visual fidelity at 1440p. Games look phenomenal on this monitor, as does streaming content.
The monitor isn’t perfect, however. Brightness isn’t pushed aggressively, but it works well for indoor use and accepts HDR content. The picture quality and smooth motion mostly help you overlook these deficiencies, but they’re still there.

Everyday use
Even if it’s not the flashiest-looking gaming monitor out there, the 27G610A-B is an elegant device that won’t look out of place even in a traditional office. I think I speak for most video game fans when I say a gaming monitor’s display quality and refresh rate matter more than its aesthetic appeal.

At 27 inches, the LG UltraGear 27G610A-B isn’t overly large or heavy. The stand doesn’t take up much space on a desk. You can raise or lower the screen, tilt it backward or forward, and swivel it left and right, which makes it easy to find a comfortable position.
The screen borders are reasonably thin, which works well if you plan to use multiple monitors side by side. The matte screen coating helps reduce reflections and makes long work sessions and gaming nights more comfortable.

Image quality
What sets it apart is its picture clarity and color consistency at 1440p. Games look phenomenal on this monitor, as does streaming content. Not only are the colors distinct and vibrant, but the monitor does an exceptional job of showing off small details like a lizard’s scales or a plant’s leaves.

The 2560×1440 WQHD resolution nicely complements the 27 inches screen. You get plenty of screen real estate with sharp details and text, and without any scaling necessary. The image remains stable even when viewed from the side, and colors look clean and consistent for everyday use and gaming.
Maybe this monitor doesn’t push brightness compared to some competitors, but it’s still usable in everyday situations. The picture quality mostly helps you overlook these limitations, but they’re still worth pointing out.
Refresh rate
With a 200Hz refresh rate and a 1 millisecond response time, this monitor stays smooth during use. No matter how much was happening on the screen or how fast I was moving, the UltraGear never stuttered.
Fast moving scenes stay clear and easy to follow. I can’t say this monitor made me play better, but it certainly didn’t hinder me.
Most gamers find 27 inches 1440p high refresh rate displays to be the sweet spot for PC gaming.
